The village church Kleßen is the Protestant church in the village of Kleßen in Brandenburg .

Architecture and history

A previous building of today's church is mentioned in minutes of the church visitation in 1541 after the introduction of the Reformation . The building was probably destroyed during the Thirty Years War . At least in 1698 a new half-timbered church was built. To the west of the nave was a church tower with a square floor plan. It was replaced in 1886 due to its dilapidation. The new tower was given a curved, tapering hood covered with gray slate and was designed in a historicizing neo-Gothic style. So the windows of the brick tower were laid out as round arches . A curved roof was attached over the portal.

From 1913, the church was extensively rebuilt. After the state of construction had deteriorated considerably by 1929, the half-timbered walls were replaced by plastered brick walls by 1932. The designs were made by the church building councilor Curt Steinberg .

The interior of the church was also changed. Two rows of wooden columns that had previously divided the church into three naves were removed. The interior is spanned by a flat, white wooden ceiling. The paintings were done by Robert Sandfort .

At the beginning of the 21st century there was again a considerable need for renovation. The Friends of the Village Church Kleßen was founded in February 2007. On February 22, 2007, the 75th anniversary of the inauguration of the renewed building, the interior was restored. Above all, the ceiling was repaired. A wood protection glaze applied during the GDR era had caused large oil stains to form. The Flatow church painter Karl-Heinz Sandow restored the original coloring. Work on the facade and roof began in October 2009. The facade was plastered. A shade of ocher was chosen as the color , which corresponds to the color of the Kleßen sand. The cornice was set off in color. The church roof was re-covered with plain tile roofing. The work was completed in 2011.

Furnishing

Inside the church there are two wooden patronage galleries from around 1700 on the south and north walls. They are designed as preaching . Painted coats of arms of the von Bredow family, inscriptions and plastic hermen pilasters can be found on the parapet . There is also a gallery on the west side. The baroque organ front was created in 1717 and its decorations resemble the balustrade fields of the boxes. In addition to Bible texts, there are also noble coats of arms. Acanthus motifs were chosen as carvings . Today's pneumatic organ was installed between 1932 and 1934 and is the work of organ builder Gustav Heinze from Sorau .

The wooden pulpit altar dates from 1760 and is made in the Rococo style . The pulpit is decorated with floral ornaments in a rural way. The basket is flanked by Corinthian columns and rocaille cheeks . The sound cover is crowned with a ray of sun framed by two horns of plenty .

A wooden, octagonal baptism dates from the times of a previous building. According to an inscription, the richly decorated baptism , made in the Renaissance style , was donated by the Kleßen farmer Rehfeld in 1607. Plastic lion heads decorate the polygonal baptismal font. In addition, there are shell niches and fittings fields arranged between small corner pillars . The corresponding free-hanging, very high arched lid is designed in the shape of a crown. The feet of baptism are formed as volute feet .
