Robert Sandfort

Robert Sandfort (born July 5, 1880 in Kettwig an der Ruhr; died March 5, 1945 in Essen ) was a German church painter .

Life

After training as a painter, Sandfort studied at the Düsseldorf School of Applied Arts . After completing his studies in 1901, he did military service as a one-year volunteer . In 1906 he opened a studio as a decorative painter in Charlottenburg near Berlin. During the First World War he served as an officer and received the Iron Cross First and Second Class. On May 1, 1933, Sandfort joined the NSDAP . However, it was not until 1937 that the Reich Chamber of Fine Arts accepted him into the specialist group of painters and graphic artists. At the end of 1944 he moved to Essen, where he died in a bomb attack shortly before the end of the war.
