The Protestant village church Kunow is an early Gothic stone church in the Kunow district of Schwedt / Oder in the Uckermark district in Brandenburg . It belongs to the parish Schwedt / Oder in the parish of Uckermark of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia and can be visited after registration.

History and architecture

The Kunow village church is a flat-roofed field stone hall with a retracted rectangular choir and a nave-wide tower from the second half of the 13th century. The square tower structure made of half-timbered houses with a boarded tower and pointed helmet dates from 1737/38. The stepped west portal and the three-window group of the east wall have been preserved in their original form, the nave windows were enlarged in the second half of the 19th century. A remarkably well-preserved plaster tape joint design from the construction period can be found on the south wall of the choir; there are also fragments of medieval and baroque eaves friezes.

The interior is divided by a pointed arch, later walled up, between the tower and the nave and a pointed triumphal arch . The spatial effect is determined by the high quality furnishings from the early 18th century and the restoration in the second half of the 19th century. On the north wall of the choir, remains of medieval wall paintings can be seen under the paint. A roof and facade restoration has been funded by the German Foundation for Monument Protection since 2012 .

Furnishing

The main piece of equipment is an altar piece from 1719 by the carpenter Christian Wiese, the structure is decorated with rich carvings and paintings, the altar leaf with the crucifixion is signed G. Steyn; The Lord's Supper is shown in the pedestal and the portrait medallions of the von Wolde donor couple in the cheeks made of lively acanthus tendrils ; in the oval gable the entombment, on the blasted gable pieces are depicted lying putti .

The polygonal pulpit from 1712 is decorated with a sound cover , corner pillars and tendril friezes; the fillings on the basket date from the 19th century. A high quality baptismal angel from the beginning of the 18th century was also created by Christian Wiese.

The stalls date from around 1728, the panels contain 61 emblematic representations of cultural and historical interest based on motifs by D. Cramer from Stettin with sayings and quotes from the Bible. The horseshoe-shaped west gallery with depictions of the apostles apparently dates from the 19th century. A chest with iron fittings has been preserved from 1572. A tombstone with a coat of arms for H. von Wolde († 1596) should also be mentioned. The organ by an unknown organ builder from around 1847 has eight stops on a manual and pedal .
