The church

The Evangelical Lutheran village church of Mehna is located in the municipality of Mehna in the Altenburger Land district in Thuringia .

history

Judging by the oldest components, the village church has been in the village for over 800 years. During renovation work in 1969, evidence of history was found, for example the checkerboard pattern on the old south portal and a small Romanesque window on the north side and in the house a consecration cross on the triumphal arch between the nave and the choir .

In 1484 the Gothic chancel with a star vault was added to the existing church . The steeple is 36 meters high and was repaired in 1967.

In 1739 the village church was completely rebuilt. This year can be found carved over the entrance portal. The Romanesque windows were also bricked up during this period. In addition, the gallery was installed in the nave. Pulpit altar and organ were installed.

All of these fixtures were removed during the 1969 renovation. That is why the church hall presents itself as a bright, simple room. The decoration with the font from 1554 and old grave slabs is remarkable . The small organ is on the gallery in the hall. The roof has now been renovated.
