The church in Mellnsdorf from the south

The village church Mellnsdorf is located in the district of Mellnsdorf in the municipality of Niedergörsdorf in the district of Teltow-Fläming in Brandenburg . The church is a listed building. The church is located in the southern part of the village. The church has been documented as a daughter church of Blönsdorf since the late Middle Ages .

The church

The Protestant church was probably built in the first half of the 13th century, that is, at the time of the late Romanesque . It is a hall building made of field stone with a square choir and a semicircular apse , albeit a small recess . The field stones have been worked on, but they were set irregularly. The roof tower is made of wood and is located on the west side of the church. There are walled-up portals on both sides of the church, and the priest's gate on the north side of the choir is also walled up. The portals, but also the windows, are closed with round arches.

Changes in the Middle Ages are not documented. A major renovation was carried out from 1891 to 1892. During this renovation, the arched windows were given brick reveals and the west gable was rebuilt from brick. The timber-framed west tower was also erected at this time; the tower was boarded up. The tower has a tent roof and is covered with slate . The interior has also been redesigned. A gallery, a pastor's chair and the two-part parish chairs were built in. The interior was renovated again from 1928 to 1929, while the interior of the church was repainted. The stained glass from 1892 in the apse is striking.

Inside there is an altar block from the first half of the 13th century. The canteen of the altar was used as a cover plate in 1892, the substructure was rebuilt. The cover plate contains incised marks and consecration crosses , the altarpiece is made of wood. The baptism is also from 1892. It is a terracotta work by the March company from Berlin-Charlottenburg. The pulpit was built by the carpenter Unger from Zahna in 1892. It has a polygonal basket and an octagonal support. The organ front dates from the end of the 19th century.
