Parchen village church

The village church Parchen is the evangelical church of today to the city Genthin belonging village Parchen .

The church is located in the center of the village, on Kirchstrasse, which branches off to the southeast from the main road. It stands on a hill surrounded by a natural brick wall. The church building still has a part of the Romanesque predecessor building with the eastern choir wall . This was built in the early 13th century, but had to be replaced by a new building after a fire in 1827.

The new building was probably based on plans by the Berlin architect Friedrich August Stüler , who later also redesigned the Byern family mansion . As with the original church, field stones were also used in the reconstruction. A somewhat narrower rectangular chancel is attached to the nave in the east, on the south side of which a family crypt was built for the von Byern manor family. The foundation walls of the west transverse tower reach the height of the nave. The square upper floor was initially built from bricks, but after a fire in 1934 it was renovated from field stones in keeping with the style. The tower has an octagonal pointed helmet. The other roofs are tiled, the nave and crypt have gable roofs , the choir is covered with a three-sided hipped roof. The windows of the nave and the portals are framed with red bricks, and the crypt extension was decorated with bricks. A tympanum showing the Lamb of God from the previous building was used in a portal in the north wall that is now walled up .

Inside is a flat ceiling, the square coffered pattern of which from 1934 is decorated with round pictures depicting scenes from the life of Jesus , figures of the apostles and verses from the Bible . The classical interior includes a horseshoe gallery , on the western part of which there is an organ from the beginning of the 19th century. In the gable of the otherwise simple altar wall, the Lamb of God is depicted again. The wooden five-sided pulpit resting on a column is decorated with inscriptions. The old patronage box still stands on the south wall .
