The village church of Sanitz is one of the churches of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Sanitz in the Rostock district . The community belongs to the Rostock provost in the Mecklenburg parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany ( Northern Church ).

history

Sanitz is mentioned as a church village as early as 1256. The reason for the documentary evidence was the assignment of the church in Dänschenburg as a Sanitzer daughter church. The church of Sanitz was mentioned again on the occasion of a contract dated June 2, 1291, in which Heinrich von Werle secured the right of patronage for the bishop of Schwerin over his ward Nikolaus von Rostock , which has since been held by the sovereign. Various families were recorded as vassals in the 14th century. Through succession, the village came into the possession of the Doberan Monastery , to which it belonged until the Reformation .

Building description

Floor plan according to Schlie

The church in the style of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic is built of field stones, the corners and edges of which are made of hewn stones. The building consists of a choir , nave and tower at the same height . The lower floor of the massive tower has been pulled in and is covered with a four-part vault, the nave and choir with an eight-part vault. Brick was used in the window reveals . The windows have the shape of round arched closed slits, on the south and east side of the choir they are arranged in groups of three, the north side of the choir has no windows. The windows in the nave already suggest the Gothic pointed arch. The thickness of the tower walls give reason to assume that a higher tower was planned; instead, the compact tower is closed off by a low half-timbered helmet. The transition between the tower and nave is designed with a pointed arch like the triumphal arch to the choir. A sacristy is built to the north of the choir and a vestibule to the south.

Interior decoration

The altar from 1811 is a work in the classical style with paintings by the Mecklenburg court painter Rudolph Suhrlandt , which show the Holy Communion in the base and the passion of Christ on the Mount of Olives in the essay. To the right and left of it are two columns each with Corinthian capitals and figures carved from wood, which embody faith, love, hope and patience. The altar was donated by Captain von Koppelow from Reppelin. The pulpit from 1694 is made in the Baroque style .
