Koppelow , also Coppelau , is the name of an ancient Mecklenburg family . The family, some of which still exist today, later acquired property and reputation in Brandenburg and Denmark .

history

origin

The sex is first mentioned on January 9, 1320 with Ericus de Coppelowe . Ericus appears in the document as a witness to princes Johann II. (Werle) and Johann III. (Werle) . The uninterrupted line of the family begins with Engelke Koppelowe on Marnitz , who is mentioned in a document from 1359 to 1378.

Koppelow, the parent company that gave it its name, is located north of the Nebel river and is now part of the Hoppenrade community in the south of the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . In 1417 the village appears as Kopelow in a document in which elevations for the Güstrow church are given. During the 16th and 17th centuries, the owner changed several times, at the beginning of the 19th century the estate belonged to the von Lewetzow family .

Adam Wilhelm von Koppelow (1756-1823) on Mentin, a son from his second marriage, married Marie Sophie Charlotte Gans Noble Mistress zu Putlitz (1756-1823) in 1782 . His marriage to Anna Emilie Molly Freiin von Orgies in 1856 resulted in two sons who both became officers in the Prussian army .

Possessions

Siggelkow was one of the oldest fiefdoms of the Koppelows . Katharine Frau zu Putlitz and widow of Joachim Gans Edler Herr zu Putlitz sold on January 6, 1468 with the approval of her son, Wedigo Gans von Putlitz, Bishop of Havelberg , the three desert field marks Möllenbeck , Repzin (today district von Karrenzin ) and Menzendorf (today part of Möllenbeck ), as her deceased husband had once bought from Hans Bösel [..] to Vicke von Koppelow.

On March 3, 1468, Duke Heinrich von Mecklenburg enfeoffed the Vicke from Koppelow zu Siggelkow with the village sites and field marks Möllenbeck, Repzin and Menzendorf [..] in the Bailiwick of Marnitz . Vicke von Koppelow was from 1458 to 1468 and probably later ducal Vogt of Marnitz and Neustadt. Vicke had an important office, as he had to guard two important castles against the Märker in those troubled times. From this enfeoffment until 1822, the von Koppelow family owned the Möllenbeck estate with Repzin.

In 1592 there was a confirmation of ownership in Koppelow, Mentin and Möllenbeck and in 1600 in Siggelkow. In 1718 the family owned in Mecklenburg zu Ivenack . Ernst Christoph von Koppelow (1659–1721) had Ivenack Castle built after 1709 on the foundations of a Renaissance complex. In the Kingdom of Denmark, Major Jørgen Johan Koppelow owned the small Vindebygård on Lolland, and Major General Gottfried von Koppelow was buried in Haraldsted Church in 1775. In the middle of the 19th century, Schlaborn (today part of Rheinsberg ) in the Ruppin district in the province of Brandenburg was owned or partially owned by the Koppelow.
