history

The name of the village Dänschenburg, formerly Denescheburch, Denskhenborch or Denschenborch, indicates a Danish settlement. The church must have been built around this time, because on October 14, 1256, Bishop Rudolf von Schwerin assigned the church Dänschenburg as a branch church of the parish of Sanitz. Doberan Monastery was given jurisdiction in Dänschenburg and retained it until 1552, when the village became part of the lordly domanium in the Ribnitz district. Until then, the Dänschenburg church belonged to the Archdeaconate of Rostock. Since 1783 the church belongs to the parish of Blankenhagen. In 1956 the church was restored. Extensive building security measures were carried out in 1991/94.

Building description

Tower portal

The church is made of field stones. A flat wooden ceiling covers the nave, which was originally designed for a vault. The choir does not appear structurally. In the north and south walls there are two pairs of windows, the shape and arrangement of which indicate the transition from Romanesque to Gothic . A toothed frieze adorns the building below the roof and a panel design on the east gable. The mighty west tower, also made of field stones, has a wooden tower from 1732 above a pyramid roof. A roof turret with a bell sits on the top of the east gable.

Interior decoration

The baroque altarpiece dates from 1722. It is decorated with allegorical figures and two paintings. The paintings show the crucifixion and the resurrection. From a previous pre-Reformation altar from the 16th century there is still a painting depicting the death of the Virgin . The pulpit is also in the baroque style, it was made in 1725 and resembles the one from the village church in Rostock Wulfshagen . Under the pulpit is a carved Anna selbdritt group from pre-Reformation times. Moisture damage and sponge infestation are visible in the church. The organ is infested with woodworms and can no longer be played.
