The Evangelical village church in Steinhagen in East Westphalia in the Gütersloh district is the oldest church in the community. Church and congregation belong to the Halle parish of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia .
history
As early as 1334 there was an independent parish in Steinhagen. Before the parish, Steinhagen belonged to St. Peter's Church in Kirchdornberg . The former two-aisled hall church was built in the 14th century and
In 1901, a transept-like extension was added to the plans by Karl Siebold from Bethel near Bielefeld . A tower with a gable roof is in front of the building in the west.
Furnishing
The equipment includes a remarkable winged altar , which was probably built around 1450/60 in the vicinity of Johann Koerbecke , a pulpit with late Gothic tracery fillings, a baptismal font from 1693 and a remarkable mosaic above the main entrance showing Archangel Michael fighting a dragon and the inscription carries “ And if the world were full of devils ”, a quote from the hymn A strong castle is our God . At the time of its creation, this inscription took a stand against democratic currents in the country.
