history

Schedlau has been documented as a church village since 1379.

In 1533 Schedlau came into the possession of the noble Pückler family , who built a castle here and shaped the history of the village until 1945. The Pücklers introduced the Reformation in the village and in 1616 Hans von Pückler and his wife Helena von Sedlnitzky (Sedelnitzki) donated the stone Salvatorkirche instead of the old wooden church. As a result of the Imperial Edict of Restitution of 1629, the church had to be returned to the Catholics, although the majority of the population remained Protestant. In 1830 only 55 of the 389 inhabitants were Catholic.

The church in Schedlau was and is still a branch of Falkenberg ( Niemodlin ), the Protestants visited the local Protestant church.

Baptismal font

A plaque above the portal shows the coats of arms of the founder Hans von Pückler and his wife Helena von Sedlnitzky and provides information about their foundation: “In the 1616 Jar this Christian Apostolic / Evangelical Church is owned by the noble Gestrengen Herr / Hans Pückler von Groditz Auff Schedelaw Sampt / His married consort the Wolgeborn Frawen Frawen / Helena Sedlnitzkyn Von Choltitz Vnd Füll- / Stein von Ihr von Gutt vnd gelde / Erbawet Worden .

The interior of the three-bay church is spanned by a simple barrel vault adorned with lunettes , but it has rich mannerist furnishings. Hermann Fischer from Neisse created the large main altar, the pulpit and the font, the color of which goes back to Caspar Winckler. The main altar shows the Last Supper, the crucifixion, the resurrection and the ascension of Christ in four stages. At the pulpit, Moses , holding the two tablets, serves as Atlant. The balustrade shows the four evangelists and finally there is a sculpture on the cover that depicts the Whitsun event. A sculpture of Jesus with the children is placed in the high structure of the baptismal font. Also worth seeing are the grave monuments of von Pückler, which are a visible sign of the close connection between the place and the aristocratic family. Among them are two children's epitaphs, each depicting four boys and four girls.

Except for a depiction of the Agnus Dei on the altar, which was probably added in the 19th century, the furnishings in the church date from the Lutheran era. Interesting here is the inscription on the church bell weighing 477 kilograms from 1615, which was cast by Jakob Götz in Breslau and which came to the Franconian Roßtal after the Second World War : "Dear Lord God stand us against all Calvinism."
