Dorfschwalben from Austria is a waltz by Josef Strauss (op.164).
prehistory
In 1862/63 August Silberstein wrote the novel Village Swallows from Austria . Inspired by this novel, Josef Strauss wrote the waltz of the same name.
This waltz was premiered on September 6, 1864 in the Volksgarten , as was Frauenherz . The two pieces are considered masterpieces by Josef Strauss. At the memorial service that took place after his death on October 18, 1870, the two works were performed under the direction of his brother Johann Strauss .
In 1930 Paul Knepler added a text to the waltz under the title Spring, Spring, Beautiful Time! Have a good time full of joy! to the singing waltz.
