Doris Gray

Doris Grau (born October 12, 1924 in New York City , New York , † December 30, 1995 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress , voice actress and script supervisor .

Life and work

Grau is best known for her work as a script supervisor (45 episodes) and as the voice of kitchen helper Doris in The Simpsons . From 1965 on, she worked as a script supervisor, including for several episodes of Cheers, and only discovered working as an actress and voice actress a few years later. In addition to the role of kitchen help Doris , she spoke another Doris in The Critic . Both characters are heavy smokers.

As an actress, she played in the movie An honorable gentleman, among others .

In 1995 she died at the age of 71 from a respiratory disease . After Graus death, her character in The Simpsons fell silent until season 18. Meanwhile, the role of Tress MacNeille is voiced.
