Dornock , Gaelic Dòrnach , is a village in the Scottish Council Area Dumfries and Galloway or in the Annandale district of the traditional county of Dumfriesshire . It is located about three kilometers east of Annan near the opening of the estuary delta of the Esk to the Solway Firth .
history
In the 14th and 15th centuries, two battles of the Anglo-Scottish Wars took place at Dornock, of which both parties could decide one for themselves. With the Tower Houses Robgill Tower and Stapleton Tower, there were two fortifications in the area. In 1793, the Dornock Parish Church was built in Dornock. In the 1880s, there were two separate schools in Dornock. Both have now been closed. On the south edge is the Dornock House farmhouse .
traffic
The B721 forms the main street of Dornock. The A75 ( Stranraer - Gretna Green ) passes one kilometer to the north and connects the village to the trunk road network. Dornock received its own station in 1848 along the Glasgow, Dumfries and Carlisle Railway, which later became the Glasgow and South Western Railway . The station was named after the neighboring village of Eastriggs in 1923 and closed in 1965.
