Dorothea Geilinger (reg. 1550 in Winterthur , † 1571 in Monastery Magdenau ) was an abbess Founded in 1244 Cistercian monastery Magdenau in the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland.

Live and act

Dorothea Geilinger succeeded her aunt Elisabeth Geilinger as abbess from 1550 . The Magdenau Monastery, which was subordinate to the Wettingen Monastery , only came back to life after a short break with Elisabeth's predecessor Afra Schenk and flourished under the reign of the two Geilingers. Dorothea knew how to regain legal titles and assets that had been lost, such as the lucrative package of the Oberglatt parish church , through internal reform and skillful negotiation policies .

Today nothing is known about their origin. She died in the 21st year as abbess, shortly after she had received from her abbot father Christoph Silberysen the right to give her legacy to her cousin .

In the years 1563 and 1567 Dorothea Geilinger donated three almost identical coats of arms from the hand of the glass painter Niklaus Bluntschli to befriended women's monasteries. The Wettinger picture window can still be seen there today, while the other pane from 1563 probably went to Tänikon . It later belonged to the Vincent Collection in Konstanz and is now lost. The third disc, created four years later, possibly went to the Cistercian convent Feldbach near Steckborn and was later exhibited in the Berlin Palace Museum, but did not survive the Second World War. The coat of arms in Wettingen shows Abbess Dorothea kneeling on the lower right edge of the picture. The somewhat mannerist depiction is characteristic of the artist Bluntschli.
