Dorothea Steiner (born August 21, 1948 in Schwandorf ) is a German teacher and politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). From 1998 to 2008 she was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament . From 2009 to 2013 she was a member of the German Bundestag .

education and profession

After graduating from high school in Nuremberg, Steiner studied Romance studies , political science and history at the Free University of Berlin . After passing the 1st state examination in 1976, she trained as a teacher and passed her 2nd state examination in Osnabrück in 1978 . 1979/80 she worked as a bookseller and from 1980 to 1998 she worked as a high school teacher in Osnabrück.

politics

Steiner has been a member of the Greens since 1986 . From 1992 to 1999 she was a member of the City Council of Osnabrück: from 1993 to 1998 she was chairman of the local Green parliamentary group. From 1998 to 2008 she was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament. She is also a member of the Education and Science Union and ver.di .

In the 2009 Bundestag election she was elected to the German Bundestag via the Lower Saxony state list. She was a member of the Committee on the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and was the environmental policy spokesperson for her group. In the 2013 Bundestag election , she did not succeed in re-entry.

Steiner was state chairman of the Lower Saxony Greens from 2007 to 2010 . She has held this office together with Stefanie Henneke since 2009 .
