Dorothee Jetter

Dorothee Jetter b. Raith (born August 17, 1938 in Steinen , Lörrach district ) is a German educator . From 1996 to 2001 she was President of the Synod of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg .

Life and work

After finishing school, Jetter studied at the Reutlingen University of Education . After graduating, she worked as a teacher at various schools, including the Free Evangelical School in Reutlingen. In 1991 she became vice principal at the secondary school in the North Education Center in Reutlingen.

Church engagement

From a young age, Jetter was a volunteer in the local parish. She was active in youth work (Evangelical Girl Scouting) and in the children's church and also sang in the church choir.

In 1984 Jetter was elected to the synod of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg for the first time, to which she belonged until 2001. In 1984 the 10th Synod elected her as secretary of a committee. Two years later she became the first deputy president of the regional synod under Oswald Seitter . She continued this office in the 11th regional synod from 1990. Since 1986 she has also been a member of the Council of Elders and since 1990 of the Standing Committee of the Regional Synod. The 12th regional synod elected Jetter in 1996 as Seitter's successor as president. She was the first woman in the history of the Württemberg regional synod in this office. In the next synodal election in 2001, Jetter decided not to run again. Her successor was Horst Neugart .

In addition to her work in the Württemberg regional synod, Jetter was also represented in other church bodies. Among other things, she was a member of the board of trustees of the Evangelical Association for the Schneller Schools (see the article on Syrian Orphanage ) and the board of trustees of the Gustav Werner Foundation for the Reutlingen Brother House . In 1990 she was the first chairwoman of the board of trustees of the Evangelical Academy Bad Boll for six years . She also represented the Evangelical Church in Württemberg several times at the full assembly of the Lutheran World Federation , of which she was also a member.

honors and awards

In 1999 Dorothee Jetter was awarded the Baden-Württemberg Medal of Merit. In October 2001 she was awarded the Brenz Silver Medal , the highest award of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg. In 2004 she received the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class .
