Horst Neugart

Horst Neugart (born February 16, 1940 in Schiltach ; † June 6, 2017 in Heidenheim an der Brenz ) was a German educator , theologian and politician ( CDU ). From 2002 to 2007 he was President of the Synod of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg .

Neugart attended the Schramberg grammar school from 1950 to 1959 . He then studied at the University of Education and graduated in 1963 and 1967 with the state examinations in the subjects of Protestant theology and mathematics. Then he worked as a teacher at various schools, including the Adalbert Stifter Realschule (formerly Albert Schweitzer Realschule) in Heidenheim an der Brenz , where he became vice rector in 1969 and rector in 1974. In 1983 he was appointed director of the state seminar for practical school training (Realschulen) in Schwäbisch Gmünd.

In 1993, the Evangelical Church in Württemberg appointed him school dean for the dean's offices in Heidenheim and Geislingen. He held this position until he retired in 2003.

Church and political engagement

From a young age, Neugart was a volunteer in the local church community and in youth work in Schiltach. From 1966 to 1983 he was a parish councilor in Heidenheim. He also worked as a lecturer at the Evangelical Church in Württemberg. He was also the second chairman of the Evangelische Jugendheime Heidenheim eV association, a social institution with a school and children's homes.

In 1972 Neugart was elected to the Synod of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg for the first time, to which he still belongs with one interruption. The 8th Synod elected him secretary in 1972. In the 9th regional synod he was only a substitute member. In the 10th regional synod he was elected to the council of elders, which he also belonged to in the 11th regional synod. In 1996 the 12th Synod elected Neugart as its 1st Deputy President and 1st Deputy Chairman of the Council of Elders. In 2002, Neugart was elected President of the Synod by the 13th Regional Synod and thus the successor to Dorothee Jetter . His successor and president of the 14th regional synod is Christel Hausding .

Neugart was married and had three grown children. In addition to his church engagement, Neugart was also politically active. From 1981 he was a member of the municipal council of the city of Heidenheim. From 2009 until his death he was a member of the district council of the Heidenheim district .

On April 26, 2008 he received the highest award in the state of Baden-Württemberg, the Baden-Württemberg State Medal of Merit .
