Dorothy Christy
Dorothy Christy (born May 26, 1906 in Reading , Pennsylvania , † May 21, 1977 in Santa Monica , California ) was an American actress , best known for her role as Betty Laurel in the Laurel-and-Hardy film Die Sons of the Desert and best known for her role as Queen Tika in the film series The Phantom Empire . Otherwise she mainly played supporting roles.
Life
Dorothy Christy was born Dorothea Jean Seltzer on May 26, 1906 in Reading, Pennsylvania . Your date of birth is controversial; according to other sources, she was born on May 26, 1900. In 1926 she married the songwriter Harold Christy and later, secondly, Rolin Rucker , with whom she also had her only son Creed, born in 1940, or Credo Rucker . Christy was quite a tall woman for the time, so she reached a height of 1.69 meters.
Dorothy Christy died of natural causes in Santa Monica, California five days before her 71st birthday . She was buried in the Chapel of the Pines Crematory .
Career
At the beginning of its 1929 ongoing until 1953 Career Christy played alongside well-known stars such as Will Rogers in So this is London , Maurice Chevalier in Playboy of Paris , Buster Keaton in Casanova reluctantly , William Powell in Lawyer Man and Shirley Temple in Bright Eyes , also with both Gene Autry and the Marx Brothers . With Gene Autry she played one of the most important roles of her career, namely that of Queen Tika in the series Gold Ducats of the Ghost (Phantom Empire) from 1935. While she mostly had to be content with small roles in larger film productions, which were often not mentioned in the credits , she also took on leading roles in several B-movies . She played the second leading role in the short film Mister Mugg .
When Christy ended her career in 1953, she remained active as a nurse.

With Laurel and Hardy , she turned first This is my wife (That's my Wife) (1929) and then played with them their most famous role in Sons of the Desert . While filming for The Sons of the Desert , Christy replaced the actress Patsy Kelly , who was unable to do another film, in the role of the seemingly superior yet lovable "Betty Laurel", whose opponent "Lottie Hardy" was played by Mae Busch . The role of Betty was not only untypical for Laurel and Hardy, but also for Christy himself, who had actually only played unsympathetic roles.
