The yolk-breasted spectacled bird ( Zosterops mayottensis ) is a species of bird in the spectacled family . It is endemic to the Comoros island of Mayotte .

description

The yolk-breasted spectacled bird reaches a length of 11 centimeters. The top is olive yellow with a greenish tinge. The upper tail-coverts are intense yellow. The forehead to the eye and the entire underside is dark yellow. The sides of the chest are dull yellow. The belly and thighs are vivid cinnamon chestnut brown. The under wing-coverts are white with a yellowish wash. The head is characterized by a narrow black rein stripe and a clear white eye ring. The tail is solid black. The straight beak is blackish.

Habitat and way of life

The yolk-breasted spectacled bird occurs both in the rainforest and in open woodland. However, it is most common in the dry forests on the east side of Mayotte , especially in the regions of Baie de Bouéni , Hachiroungou , Mlima Bénara , Mlima Choungui , Sazilé , Mlima Combani and Mlima Mtsapéré . The yolk-breasted spectacled bird lives in small groups and searches for food in the trees and bushes.

Systematics

The extinct Marianne goggle bird ( Zosterops semiflavus ), which was endemic to the Seychelles island of Marianne , used to be considered a subspecies Zosterops mayottensis semiflava .

The yolk breasted spectacled bird is classified by the IUCN as LC IUCN 3 1st svg(= least concern - not endangered).
