Double was a Swiss pop duo founded in 1983. Her biggest hit was The Captain of Her Heart from 1985.
history
The Swiss musicians Kurt Maloo and Felix Haug were double . In 1976 Maloo was involved in founding the band Troppo . In 1978 he released the solo single Giant Lady . Felix Haug was a member of the Lipschitz Orchestra from 1976 to 1979 , but also worked for Yello . Both formed the trio Ping Pong in 1981, together with a bass player. After various European festival appearances, the trio became a duo called Double.
In 1983, Double's first single, Naningo , was released . The follow-up singles Rangoon Moon and Woman of the World were, as well as the later hit The Captain of Her Heart , on the 1985 album Blue , which was released in over 50 countries. The Swiss were unable to repeat the success of their first hit single, which, in addition to German-speaking countries, also made it into the charts in England, Italy, France and the USA.
In 1987 Double recorded the album Dou3le . The trumpeter Herb Alpert and the violinist Michael Urbaniak participated as guest musicians.
In 1989 the band broke up and both members realized solo projects. At the end of the 1990s, Maloo and Haug reunited in the Can studio near Cologne and planned new recordings for Double's 20th anniversary, but Felix Haug died unexpectedly of a heart attack in 2004.
Kurt Maloo has released several solo albums with various record labels: Single (1990), Soul and Echo (1995), Loopy Avenue (2006), Summer of Better Times (2010) and What About (2014). For the 2006 album, Maloo and Pit Baumgartner from De-Phazz reworked old hits and previously unknown songs by Double, but also new compositions.
