Douglas Jay "Doug" Peterson (born May 11, 1953 in Minneapolis , Minnesota ) is a former American cross-country skier .

Peterson graduated in 1976 from Dartmouth College , Hanover, New Hampshire, in environmental science and geography. Meanwhile, he took part in the championships of the NCAA and finished in seventh place.

As early as 1974 he was part of the US B team and took part in the Winter Olympics in 1976 and 1980 . In 1976 in Innsbruck , Peterson finished 54th over 15 kilometers. With his teammates Bill Koch , Tim Caldwell and Ronny Yeager he reached sixth place in the relay competition. At the 1980 Winter Games in Lake Placid , he took part in the individual races over 30 and 50 kilometers. In the former, Petersen took 45th place, in the latter he gave up during the competition.

In 1975 Peterson was also a member of the US national whitewater canoeing team . However, he did not appear at the Olympic Games for it.
