Douglas Joseph Cardinal (born March 7, 1934 in Calgary ) is a Canadian architect .
Cardinal comes from a Métis - Blackfoot family and is known for its architecture with flowing lines, influenced by its Indian origins and European Expressionism .
He first studied at the University of British Columbia in 1953 , then received his doctorate in architecture from the University of Texas in Austin in 1963 .

Cardinal's best-known projects include:

- Leighton Artist Colony, at the Banff Center, Banff
- Provincial Building, Ponoka
- Grande Prairie Regional College , Grande Prairie
- St. Mary's Church (Marienkirche), Red Deer
- Canada's National Museum of History and Society in Gatineau , across from the Canadian Parliament Buildings on the Ottawa River .
- Edmonton Space And Science Center , Edmonton , meanwhile renovated and renamed Telus World of Science .
- First Nations University of Canada , Regina
Cardinal was one of the first North American architects to use computers to aid in design. The flowing lines refer to the surrounding landscape.
