Douglas Hemphill Elliott

Douglas Hemphill Elliott (born June 3, 1921 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , †  June 19, 1960 in Horse Valley , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . In 1960 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Douglas Elliott attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1938 the Haverford School . From 1938 to 1940 he studied at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville . During World War II , he served in the US Navy between 1941 and 1945 . From 1945 to 1952 Elliott worked for various insurance companies. From 1950 to 1952 he was also the director of public relations at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. He was also Vice President of Wilson College in Chambersburg from 1952 to 1960 .

Politically, Elliott was a member of the Republican Party . Between 1957 and 1960 he was a member of the Pennsylvania Senate . After the death of MP Richard M. Simpson , he was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC at the by-election due for the 18th seat of his state , where he took up his new mandate on April 26, 1960. However, he could only exercise this until June 19 of the same year. That day he committed suicide in Horse Valley.
