Douglas McDonald (also known as Dougie McDonald ; born October 8, 1965 in Edinburgh ) is a former Scottish football referee . McDonald, who works as a traffic planner, whistled for the Scottish Football Association from 1997 to 2010 and from 2000 as a FIFA referee in international matches. He retired with immediate effect in 2010, shortly after the match between Celtic Glasgow and Dundee United , after strong criticism of him. As a result, the Scottish football referee strike .

Career

Douglas McDonald directed over 220 Scottish Premier League games from 1997 to 2010 . In his career as a referee, he was also active as a referee in two finals for the Scottish League Cup in the 2006/07 and 2008/09 seasons . Also in two finals for the Scottish Cup in the seasons 2005/06 and 2009/10 . He also whistled two games in the World Cup and one in the European Championship qualification. There were also six international friendlies. He was also used in the UEFA Cup and the Europa League , as well as in the UI Cup and the Champions League qualification .
