Douglas Russell

Douglas Albert Russell (born February 20, 1946 in Midland , Texas ) is a retired American swimmer.

In 1967 Russell won the Pan American Games in Winnipeg over 100 meters butterfly and with the 4 × 100 meter relay relay. He was also able to win both titles at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City . On the butterfly route, he defeated Mark Spitz , whom he also ousted from the tier relay. In 1969 Russell won his only college championship in the 100 meter butterfly.

Russell graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington .
