Thomas "Tom" Malchow (born August 18, 1976 in St. Paul , Minnesota ) is a former American swimmer .
At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , he won the silver medal in the 200 m butterfly . He was able to surpass this success at the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 when he became Olympic champion over the same route.
