Carl Joseph Robie III (also The Philadelphia Flyer ; born May 12, 1945 in Darby , Pennsylvania , † November 30, 2011 in Sarasota , Florida ) was an American swimmer .

Life

Carl Joseph Robie, born in Darby in 1945, was able to improve the world record over 200 m butterfly four times in the sixties . At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 , he was able to win the silver medal in the 200 m butterfly. Four years later, "The Philadelphia Flyer" became Olympic champion over this route at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City . In 1976 he was inducted into the international swimming sport hall of fame .

Robie died on November 30, 2011 at the age of 66.
