life and career
After a short career in the theater, the native Canadian gave in Hollywood in 1931, where numerous young actors were hired at that time. After a few smaller supporting roles, Walton got bigger and bigger roles, often impersonating snobbish or educated aristocrats. He played, among other things, Percy Shelley in the horror film Frankenstein's Bride in 1935 and was seen in the adventure strip Mutiny on the Bounty the same year . The high point of his career was the impersonation of Lord Darnley , the effeminate husband of Katharine Hepburn in the lavish period film Mary of Scotland . In 1937 he received one of his few leading roles in the B-movie Damaged Goods .
In 1939 Walton starred in the comedy Billy Draws a Horse on Broadway . In the 1940s, Walton's film career sank noticeably into smaller supporting roles. Perhaps his last significant role was Alan Campbell in The Portrait of Dorian Gray (1945), the film adaptation of Oscar Wilde 's novel of the same name. After sixty films, he retired from the acting business in 1950 at the age of just 40. Walton died of a heart attack eleven years later.
