Douvrin engine

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Douvrin engine is a four cylinder - internal combustion engine for automobiles , the 1977 to 1997 from the de La Française Mécanique was made, a joint venture between Renault and PSA Group (Peugeot). It is also called the J-motor.

The engine is water-cooled. The engine block and cylinder head are made of aluminum . The crankshaft has 5 bearings. The camshaft is in the cylinder head and is driven by a toothed belt. The engine was built as gasoline and diesel fuel , with 8 and 12 valves . There were also versions with a turbocharger. The displacement is 2.0 or 2.2 liters.

history

The Douvrin engine was presented to the press in 1977. The chief developer was Jean-Jacques His , who was also the father of Formula 1 engines with which Ferrari , among others , was equipped. One of the first cars with the Douvrin engine was the new Renault 20 TS . In 1979 the Société Française de Mécanique presented the first diesel engine, the J8S type, which was initially used in the Renault 20 .

In 1980 the Renault 18 also got the diesel engine 852 (J8S), a few months later, in August 1980, the 2.2 petrol engine type 851 (J6T) in the Renault 20 TX. In the same year, the Renault 20 turbodiesel appeared with the J8S Turbo engine. A year later the Renault 30 turbodiesel followed with the same engine, at the end of 1983 the Renault 25 and two years later the Renault 21 . The last two models were given either the 2.0- or 2.2-liter gasoline engines with injection systems under the designations J7R and J7T. The R25 TS and GTS versions kept the J6R engine with carburetor. The engine J7T in the R25 was with 123 hp (as J7T 706 or J7T 707 for automatic transmissions ). In September 1986, the power was increased to 126 hp, the engines were now called J7T730 (for manual transmission) and J7T731 (for automatic transmission). There were also versions with a catalytic converter and 110 hp (models J7T 708 and J7T 732).

The commercial vehicles Renault Trafic and Renault Master Master got the 2.0-liter engine with single carburettor as J5R. The last Trafic until 1997 got a J7T with only 101 hp.

In August, the Renault 21 Turbo with 2 liter displacement and 175 was presented. The engine is called J7R-752.

In winter 1988 (model year 1989) came the cylinder head with 12 valves, which was installed in the Renault 25 TXI. This engine was also used in the Renault Espace II from mid-1991 and in the first series of the Renault Safrane , model years 1992 to 1996.

The end of the Douvrin engine came with stricter laws against pollution.

Peugeot has used the Douvrin engine in the Peugeot 505 and Citroën CX (Reflex, Athéna, Leader, 20RE, 20TRE and 22TRS models); there he got a double carburetor. The Talbot-Matra Murena was also supposed to be equipped with the engine, but Renault ultimately decided against it as the engine was to be used in the new Fuego instead.

The Douvrin diesel engines (J8S) were not used by Peugeot.
