The Downs Nunatak is an approximately 1000 m high nunatak of the Palmerland in the southern part of the Antarctic Peninsula . In the Scarp Crescent not far from the Fallières coast , it looms between the Garcie Peaks and the Webb Peak .
Aerial photos of the nunatak were taken in 1940 during the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941) and in 1966 by the United States Navy . The British Antarctic Survey carried out surveys between 1970 and 1973. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named him after Bobby G. Downs, a cook at Palmer Station in the Antarctic winter of 1968.
