Dr. Wilhelmy Foundation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dr. Wilhelmy Foundation is a legal foundation established in Berlin under civil law . The purpose is to promote science and research, education and training, as well as art and culture, monument protection and monument preservation.

The foundation was set up in 2007 by Lothar Wilhelmy with the primary goal of supporting the endowment of the Otto Klung Weberbank Prize by doubling the prize money. The promotion of art and culture, monument protection and monument preservation takes place through the allocation of funds to other tax-privileged corporations or corporations under public law, which use these funds exclusively for the promotion of art and culture, monument protection and monument preservation. The foundation capital is administered by the German Foundation Center in the Donors' Association for German Science .

The Otto Klung Foundation , the development company of Weberbank gGmbH (today Weberbank Foundation) and the Dr. Wilhelmy Foundation agreed in a cooperation agreement in 2007 on the name Klung-Wilhelmy-Weberbank-Preis, the distribution of the prize money between the cooperation partners and the type of public award ceremony, with half the share of Dr. Wilhelmy Foundation. At the end of 2013, the Weberbank Foundation ended its cooperation that had existed since 2001. The Otto Klung Foundation, the Dr. Wilhelmy Foundation and the chairmen of the Chemistry and Physics Prize Committee of the Free University of Berlin have determined the future name of the Klung Wilhelmy Science Prize . After another generous donor left, Dr. Wilhelmy Foundation assumed the role of senior partner. The provisions of the Otto Klung Foundation's statutes regarding the selection process for outstanding young scientists in physics or chemistry, alternating annually by volunteer experts from universities and research institutions, have been updated.

As a contribution to strengthening Germany as a location for science, the foundation has concluded further collaborations:

  • Technical University of Berlin , Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, on February 26, 2016 for the award of a particularly outstanding dissertation completed during an academic year in the field of electrical engineering, technical information technology / computer engineering and computer science. With regard to the challenges of the energy transition, another outstanding dissertation can also be recognized, which focuses on issues of electrical energy technology.
  • VDI Association of German Engineers on July 10, 2018 to award outstanding doctoral theses completed during the last two calendar years by female engineers from all engineering disciplines, whereby the VDI agrees with the VDE that candidates will not be awarded by both organizations.
