Train Your Dragon (orig. How to Train Your Dragon ) is a twelve-part children's book series by British author Cressida Cowell . The action takes place in a fictional Viking world and accompanies the protagonist Hicks on his stony path to becoming a "real hero". In 2003, the first volume in the series was published in the United Kingdom by Little, Brown and Company and in the United States from 2004 by Hodder Children's Books. By 2015, the book series had sold over seven million copies worldwide.

The books were implemented by DreamWorks Animation as a franchise consisting of three feature films, several short films and a computer animation series . The third film was released in 2019.

Books

Cowell published twelve novels which deal with the adventures of the protagonist Hicks. All books have been translated into German and have been published by Arena Verlag . The books were originally published with interior illustrations by Cowell. Three volumes with illustrations by Cowell and three volumes with illustrations by Jutta Garbert were published in German. From 2015 the German editions were illustrated by Clara Vath . The covers up to volume eight were designed by Veronika Wunderer. With the new edition of 2016, the already published volumes were also published with new covers and illustrations by Vath and the translation was adapted to the film adaptation. Before the start of the book series, the main character Hiccup (Hicks) had his first appearance in the picture book Hiccup: The Viking Who Was Seasick (2000).
