action

The year 3000: The space recovery ship Mother III , led by Captain Abraham Van Helsing, encounters Demeter , believed to be lost , who seems to be heading for Earth. The six-person crew of the Mother III decides to salvage the Demeter and bring it to earth, which should bring in proceeds of 15 million dollars. The Mother III docks with the Demeter and the crew goes on board: In addition to Van Helsing, these are the first officer Aurora Ash, the intern Mina Murry, the intelligent Arthur Holmwood, who is dependent on a wheelchair and is only called "Professor" , Muscle man Reginald Parker, called Humvee, and the drug addict Fransisco Brett, called 187. The professor decides to get the spaceship afloat again, which Mina does not like. She believes that the ship is better off in the vastness of space. The rest of the crew finally find the mummified body of the former Demeter captain , Varna, in the control room. He has a crucifix in his hand. In his video diary, the viewer, but not the crew, learns that the spaceship was once afflicted by a plague-like plague and that Varna was one of the few people who were still isolated from the others.

Humvee and 187 explore Demeter , with 187 hoping to find drugs. You will come across numerous coffins with sand in them. When 187 was searching the coffins alone, he was suddenly attacked. The crew finds him injured and treats him. He was visibly bitten and shortly thereafter turns into a vampire who attacks the others. Meanwhile, the Demeter undocks from the Mother III without the crew having to do anything . Abraham Van Helsing, on the other hand, learns from Varna's video diary that Demeter once set out for Earth from Transylvania . On board is now Count Orlock, also known as Count Dracula, who orders his new servant in 187 to kill the crew. 187's first victim is Mina, who is bitten into a vampire and disappears into one of the coffins. Orlock himself wants to bite Aurora Ash, but realizes that she is actually a robot. This opens it up to the rest of the crew as well, as it was secretly used to monitor the Mother III .

The professor has found out how to control the Demeter and now wants to fly the spaceship to a twin sun in order to defeat the vampires with the light. Meanwhile, further attempts are made to get rid of the vampires and Orlock. In the end, 187 is stabbed to death with a billiard cue and Mina is also killed in this way. When Abraham Van Helsing learns of his family's vampire hunter tradition, he faces Orlock in a duel, but loses. Aurora and Humvee kill him and also the professor who has meanwhile been made a vampire. In the end, Humvee, Aurora and Orlock stay behind as the spaceship heads for the twin sun. Aurora reveals to Humvee that she was a love robot prior to being reprogrammed, and they both withdraw. Shortly afterwards, the spaceship bursts into pieces in a solar explosion.

criticism

For the film service , Dracula 3000 was a “horror film with a cheap science fiction look that tells a ridiculous story with overwhelmed actors.” Director Roodt himself called the film “terrible, wonderfully terrible” ( “it's awful, it's wonderfully awful " ).
