Dragan Torbica

Dragan Torbica (born September 13, 1968 in Zrenjanin , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian basketball coach .

Life

At the age of 19, Torbica made his debut as a player in what was then the 2nd Yugoslav League with his hometown club Proleter Zrenjanin . After a station in Sarajevo , he moved to KK Vojvodina Novi Sad in the 3rd Serbian League in 1998/1999 . Torbica spent his last year as a player again with Proleter Zenjanin, whom he led as a player-coach in the second division. In 2005 he followed a call from KK Novi Sad . In his first year he led the team in the 1st Serbian league and narrowly missed the championship round in the following season. However, Torbica was named "Coach of the Year 2006" by the league.

In the 2008/09 season he was the coach of Iserlohn Kangaroos in the German 1st Regionalliga West, led the team to third place in the table with a record of 22 wins and six defeats, and was named the "coach of the Year "excellent. For the 2009/2010 season he was the head coach of the GiroLive-Ballers Osnabrück in the 2nd Bundesliga Pro A , but he was dismissed in November 2009 after five defeats in a row. He then worked in his Serbian homeland.

In September 2014 Torbica returned to Iserlohn and became a full-time youth coach and assistant coach of the men's team under Matthias Grothe . For the 2017/18 season he again took over the position of head coach in Iserlohn. He led the Iserlohners to the playoff semi-finals of the 2nd Bundesliga ProB in the 2017/18 season, where they lost to Rostock. After the Sauerland had only won three of the previous nine league games, Torbica was deposed as head coach at the beginning of 2019, but remained at the club as a youth coach. His work in Iserlohn ended at the end of July 2019.
