Dragoljub Ćirić (born November 12, 1935 in Novi Sad ; † August 16, 2014 ) was a Yugoslav chess grandmaster .

Life

Ćirić grew up in Čačak and achieved mastery level as a student. He received the national championship title after the tournament in Sarajevo in 1958, the title International Master in 1961 and the Grand Master’s title in Sochi in 1965. Health problems often forced him to take longer breaks from the tournament. Ćirić took part with the Yugoslav team in the Chess Olympiads in 1966 and 1968 . He won all eight games in 1966 as the second reserve player and reached second place with the team in 1968. At the European team championships in 1961 and 1965 he reached second place, in 1961 he also achieved the best individual result on the seventh board together with Efim Geller . His last Elo rating was 2269. His best historical rating before the Elo was introduced was 2640, calculated for July 1968.

The Belgrade Chess Federation and the Radnichki Chess Club announced the death of Ćirić on August 17, 2014.
