Dragomir "Dragan" Vujković ; Cyrillic : Драгомир "Драган" Вујковић (born April 4, 1953 ) is a former Yugoslav boxer of Serbian nationality. In the course of his career he was seven-time Yugoslavian champion, won two Mediterranean Games, three Balkan championships, a bronze medal at the 1974 World Championships and the silver medal at the 1978 World Championships. He also represented Yugoslavia at the 1976 Summer Olympics, where he reached the quarter-finals.

Boxing career

The 1.86 m tall Dragomir Vujković boxed for FK Spartak Subotica . He was 1969 Yugoslav junior light middleweight champion, from 1972 to 1976 five times in a row Yugoslavian middleweight champion, and 1977 Yugoslavian light heavyweight champion. 1978 and 1979 he was Yugoslav runner-up in the light heavyweight division; he lost it in both finals against Tadija Kačar .

In 1971 he won the Mediterranean Games in Izmir in the middleweight division , and in 1979 the Mediterranean Games in Split in the heavyweight division . At the Balkan Championships in 1973 he lost in the final against Ion Györfi from Romania and thus received the silver medal. However, he won the Balkan Championships in 1974 and 1976 in the middleweight division, and in 1978 the Balkan Championships in the light heavyweight division.

In 1973 he started in the middleweight division for the first time at the European Championships in Belgrade , but lost there in the second preliminary round against Witold Stachurski from Poland . In 1974 he took part in the middleweight division at the World Championships in Havana , where he moved into the semifinals by winning against Felix Masawe from Tanzania and Mustapha Wasajja from Uganda. There he had to admit defeat to the Romanian Alec Năstac and thus got out of the World Cup with a bronze medal.

Also at the European Championships in Katowice in 1975 he started in the middleweight division, but lost in the preliminary round against Jacek Kucharczyk from Poland. In 1976 he represented his home country in the middleweight division at the 21st Summer Olympics in Montreal ; there he defeated Carlos Betancourt from Puerto Rico 5-0 and David Odwell from Great Britain 5-0 before he had to admit defeat to Luis Felipe Martínez from Cuba 0-5 in the quarterfinals . At the European Championships in 1977 in Halle he fought his way to the quarterfinals in the light heavyweight division against Paweł Skrzecz , but lost there against Ottomar Sachse with a score of 2: 3. In April 1977 he won the light heavyweight division of the 28th Strandja Tournament in Sofia .

In 1978 he was runner-up in the heavyweight division in Belgrade . With victories against Grzegorz Skrzecz from Poland, Atanas Suwandschiew from Bulgaria and Jürgen Fanghänel from the GDR, he had advanced to the final, where he was defeated by the outstanding Cuban Teófilo Stevenson . In 1979 he took part in the heavyweight division at the European Championships in Cologne , where he lost in the quarterfinals against Werner Kohnert from the GDR.
