The wire goods maker was a state-recognized training occupation according to the Vocational Training Act (BBiG) until July 31, 2013 . On August 1, 2013, he was replaced by the apprenticeship specialist for metal technology.

Duration of training and structure

The training period to become a wire goods maker is usually two years. The training takes place at the training company and vocational school .

The occupation is known as the “scrap metal occupation” because it existed before the Vocational Training Act came into force. He was recognized on March 30, 1940. According to Section 108 (1) BBiG, these professions are considered training professions within the meaning of Section 25 BBiG until regular training regulations are created.

Work areas

Wire goods manufacturers produce gate systems, fences and grids . To do this, they process wire made of steel, copper, measurement or light metal as well as metal profiles into wire mesh and grids.

The training regulations for the profession from 1940 are out of date. There is no training regulation with detailed content and modern examination requirements. The Federal Institute for Vocational Training therefore examined this and other professions in 2009 before the Vocational Training Act came into force.

In its investigation, the BiBB comes to the conclusion that these training occupations could be incorporated into a new training occupation with a focus or specialization. Specialist for metal technology was chosen as the working title . The profession could include a broad-based qualification base and differentiate into individual areas in the second year. Within this profession, the qualifications of a wire goods maker could be bundled together with those of a spring maker and wire drawer in a focus on "wire and spring technology".

It would also be conceivable that a trainee who has successfully completed his training as a specialist in metal technology can continue his training in a three or three and a half year industrial metal profession, e.g. B. as an industrial mechanic or process mechanic for plastics and rubber technology . The training time already completed should be taken into account.
