Specialist for metal technology

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The specialist for metal technology has been a state-recognized training occupation according to the German Vocational Training Act since August 1, 2013 .

History of origin

The new training occupation replaces a total of eleven training occupations, some of which are already over 70 years old. Some of them existed long before the Vocational Training Act came into force. These are the following professions: wire goods maker , wire puller , spring maker , milling cutter , device assembler , young cable worker , machine assembler , metal grinder , revolver turner , grinder and part dresser .

The starting point for the reorganization was the parts fitter, who of all eleven professions with over 1,200 new contracts per year is by far the training profession with the highest number of participants. A study by Gesamtmetall on future qualification requirements in the metal sector from 2008 resulted in a clear vote in favor of a new, two-year training occupation. This was confirmed in 2009 by an expertise from the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BiBB). Nevertheless, the decision for a reorganization procedure was initially postponed in 2010 due to a lack of consensus among the social partners. Only after another investigation by the BiBB was the procedure initiated without the consent of the unions. They criticized the expert reports as "meaningless and unscientific".

Duration of training and structure

The training period to become a specialist in metal technology is two years. The training takes place at the training company and vocational school . The profession will have the following four specialties :

A completed apprenticeship as a specialist in metal technology can be counted towards different apprenticeships depending on the subject.

Work areas

In the first year of training, the focus is on metal-technical core qualifications. This includes, for example, the manufacture of components and assemblies, the maintenance of operating resources, but also the use of control technology . In the subject areas, reference is made to the different requirements from the eleven existing professions.

In the field of assembly technology, assemblies are assembled and disassembled, their function checked, and electrical and electronic components and assemblies assembled, connected and tested. The construction technology deals with the cutting, forming and joining of components. The focus here is on the assembly and disassembly of metal structures. In the machining technology specialty, machine tools or other manufacturing systems are set up, operated and monitored. The field of forming technology, on the other hand, is more dedicated to setting up, setting up and operating cutting and forming machines.

With this structure, it is possible to offer the companies that have trained up to now an equivalent alternative.
