Drama and Comedy Theater WF Komissarshevskaya
The Drama and Comedy Theater WF Komissarshevskaya or Cossack Drama Theater is a Russian theater in Novocherkassk , Rostov Oblast . It was founded in 1825 and is one of the oldest on the Don . The current theater building on Platow Prospect (house number 72) was built in 1909 according to plans by the architect Alexei Beketow.

The drama and comedy theater was founded in Novocherkassk in 1825. It was originally a traveling group. In 1866 the theater got its own building. The troupe of the theater was made up mainly of leading actors from southern Russia.
From 1891 to 1894 the theater was directed by Nikolai Sinelnikov. Under his direction, the comedy The Fruits of Education by Lev Tolstoy was staged for the first time on a provincial stage. In this theatrical performance, Vera Komissarshevskaya made her debut (later the theater received her name). The Theater of Novocherkassk was one of the first, the 1896 Seagull by Anton Chekhov aufführte.
