Drazan Salavarda (born January 2, 1964 ) is a German basketball coach and former player of Croatian origin.

Life

Salavarda left Zagreb as a student in 1989 and went to Karlsruhe . The 2.05 meter indoor player joined TSV Berghausen, after which he played from 1990 to 1993 at Post-SV Karlsruhe in the 2nd basketball division and then in the same league at TSV Speyer. In 1994 he became a German citizen. After a short stop at BG Karlsruhe , he played for the DJK Würzburg in the 1997/98 season and was promoted to the basketball league alongside young Dirk Nowitzki in April 1998  . However, Salavarda did not go into the first division, but moved to BSG Ludwigsburg , with which he also succeeded in the Bundesliga promotion in the spring of 1999. Again Salavarda stayed in the second division and strengthened TSV Ansbach in the 1999/2000 season . Then he switched to coaching.

Salavarda was head coach of the regional league team SSC Karlsruhe until 2005, and from 2006 to 2009 he was in charge of MTV Stuttgart (also regional league). He then worked as a coach at VfB Gaggenau, and in 2012 he went to Post Südstadt Karlsruhe. There he was initially primarily involved in youth work and from 2016 as assistant coach of the men's team ( PS Karlsruhe Lions ). When the team split from Ivan Rudež at the beginning of February 2020 , Salavarda was promoted to head coach.
