Zach Villa (born March 17, 1986 in Clinton , Iowa ) is an American musician and actor , best known for his portrayal of Richard Ramírez in American Horror Story: 1984 .

life and career

Villa was born in Clinton , Iowa in 1986 . When he was two years old, his mother, a dance teacher, enrolled him in dance classes as an alternative to childcare. When he discovered Gene Kelly , he decided he wanted to learn music and acting too. He began playing guitar and writing songs at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan . He studied acting at the Juilliard School in New York City .

Villa is a multi-instrumentalist and can play guitar, bass, violin, drums and piano. In 2013, after moving to Los Angeles, he founded the pop-rock band Cylvia, in which he takes the front man. She released her first EP in 2015.

In 2016 Villa formed the electro-pop band Rebel and a Basketcase with actress Evan Rachel Wood . At first they only got together for the song Oh Yeah , which was released on May 28, 2016. More songs followed under the Speaker Cat Records label and with Yeah they appeared on the Tonight Show on March 13, 2017 .

Since June 2017 Villa has been singing and playing guitar in the band Sorry Kyle, which released their first EP in 2018. In October 2019 he released his first solo single Revolver .

His first film starring role was in James Bird's Honeyglue, with a character mixing the sexes. Villa received her first regular roles on television in 2016 in Bordertown as a voice actor and in 2017 in Dan Is Dead . He gained international fame for the lead role in the ninth season of American Horror Story through the portrayal of the real-life serial killer Richard Ramírez .

Personal

In January 2017, Villa and his bandmate Wood announced their engagement, which they broke up in September.
