history

The church was built in the course of the reconstruction of Schweinfurt after the Second World War . The city of Schweinfurt grew rapidly due to immigration in the 1950s, but the newly emerging settlement area around Florian-Geyer-Straße was still looked after by the Gustav-Adolf-Gedächtniskirche in the west of the city center. As early as 1956, thought was given to dividing the parish. In 1958, the Munich regional church building officer Albert Köhler presented the first drafts for the construction of a new church.

It was planned to build a modern church between the settlement and the industrial facilities. The local construction management was entrusted to the Schweinfurt architect Kurt Glaser. The foundation stone was laid on June 1, 1958, and the church was consecrated by the Oberkirchenrat Koch in May 1959. In the 1960s, the church received several foundations from private individuals and industrial companies from Schweinfurt, such as FAG Kugelfischer .

architecture

The Dreieinigkeitskirche presents itself as a simple square building. The church building is moderately high and ends with a crossed gable roof . On the west side, a campanile was built on a cylinder floor plan. The outside of the church was faced with red bricks and only a few rectangular windows let light through. On the outside, a few concrete strips structure the building. Above the portal in 1962 the inscription "Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit" was placed by Gerolzhöfer artist Kurt Tully. The interior of the church is square with an altar island standing on a circular pedestal.

Furnishing

The equipment comes from the ideas of the executing architect and is therefore from a single source. The altar on the pedestal is designed as a simple table. The pulpit next to it has been raised a little. The center of the church is the cylindrical baptismal font made of shell limestone. The gallery is set back and only jumps into the room at two points. The six bells in the campanile were created in 1961 by the Bachert foundry from Karlsruhe .

In contrast to the architect's plan, the organ is positioned diagonally behind the altar in the church. With its pointed shapes, its housing is adapted to the roofs of the church. A crucifix by the Munich painter Walther Senf from 1960 was installed above the altar . Above the crucified one, it shows the dove as a symbol of the Holy Spirit and the triangle as a symbol of God. The body of Christ is depicted martyred, while the head already shows the risen One.
