Albrecht Brede

Albrecht Brede (born December 19, 1834 in Besse , † January 15, 1920 in Kassel ) was a German composer .

Brede was born as the fourth child of the farmer and brewery owner Johann Adam Brede in Besse near Fritzlar . From 1857 he worked as a cantor and music teacher in Sontra . From 1869 he worked as a music teacher at the Höhere Töchterschule (today's Jacob-Grimm-Schule ) in Kassel and was appointed music director in 1880 . Around 1910 he composed the melody of the Hessenlied . The text was written by Karl Preser , a well-known poet during his lifetime .
