Karl Preser , also in the spelling variant Carl Preser , (* December 21, 1828 in Kassel ; † December 18, 1910 ibid) was a German writer .

Life

After attending the polytechnic school, Preser completed his architecture studies at the Kassel Art Academy . In 1854 he took up a position in the financial administration of the Electorate of Hesse, in 1862 he was appointed court theater secretary, and he also acted as editor of the "Kasseler Zeitung" . After he was appointed to the court administration in 1866, he followed the dethroned Elector Friedrich Wilhelm I to Prague . After his death in 1876, he was given the management of the property administration of Count Erwin von Nostiz in Bohemia , most recently as chamber director in Hesse from 1884 .

Preser appeared particularly as a poet and narrator. So he wrote the text of the Hessenlied , which is the official anthem of the state of Hesse with a melody by Albrecht Brede .

Preser was given an honorary grave in the Kassel main cemetery.
