Drescher is an Austrian band from Steinfeld , Lower Austria . The band describes their crossover of thrash metal and folk music as " thrash metal".

Band history

Drescher emerged from the band Bleeed, which existed from 2009 to 2013. Gernot Engel and Bernd Wograndl had been making music together since the mid-1990s, with changing bands such as Endocrane and Paranoid Agony, which however never got out of the demo stage . With Bleeed they came up with the idea of combining modern Thrash Metal with Austrian dialect and folklore. The name was then changed to Drescher in 2013, on the one hand a reference to the combine harvester , and on the other hand a Germanization of the verb “to thrash”. The two took Roland Engel (bass), Sigi Meier (drums) and Filip Rado ( accordion ) into the band. They introduced their first steps to Toni Meloni from Principal Studios, who had already worked for Die Toten Hosen . Together they recorded the single First Blood , which was released on April 4, 2014 as a single in their own production. On April 13, 2014, the debut album harvest time was released , again as an in-house production, but distributed by Alive Records. The band then accompanied Subway to Sally on their Germany tour.

In 2015 the band was nominated for the Amadeus Austrian Music Award in the “Hard & Heavy” category, but lost to Bloodsucking Zombies from Outer Space . Also in 2015 they performed at the Wacken Open Air .

Music genre

Drescher mix Thrash Metal with elements of Austrian folk music and dialect texts. In addition to the typical metal instruments, harmonica and accordion also play a role here. The band describes their music as a mixture of Metallica and Goisern . The lyrics deal with everyday topics such as grief and love. The debut album also features a cover version of the Iron Maiden classic Hallowed Be Thy Name with Hallowed Be Thy Name .
