The Drifter Cirque (English for drifting cauldron , also known as Eddy Cirque ) is a mountain cauldron in East Antarctic Victoria Land . In the Convoy Range, it is located at the northeast end of the Eastwind Ridge between Mount Schmidtman and Mount Naab .
The glacier owes its name to the fact that the ice flow from Eastwind Ridge is insufficient to carry the moraine debris on its surface over the Fry Glacier . This is deposited in the form of a vortex ( English eddy ) in the mountain basin. Both names go back to the New Zealand Geographic Board , the former was recognized on January 15, 2008 by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names .
