The Driver tires and automotive engineering GmbH is a company for tire and automotive service. The company has belonged to the Italian tire manufacturer Pirelli since 1994 and is a 100% subsidiary of the Deutsche Pirelli Reifen Holding GmbH . The company operates over 80 locations in Germany under the Pneumobil , Driver and Reifen Wagner brands and employs around 500 people. The turnover in 2016 was around 100 million euros. The range of services includes tires, rims, vehicle master service and vehicle accessories. The company headquarters are located in Breuberg in the Odenwald, on the factory premises of Pirelli Deutschland GmbH.

history

The company was founded in 1979 and taken over by the Pirelli Group in 1994. After takeover u. a. of the Reifen Laupichler branches in the Hamburg and Hanover area , Pneumobil GmbH bought the tire dealers Junginger in Metzingen and Reifen Herl in Nürtingen on November 1, 2003, with a total of 15 branches.

With effect from January 1, 2012, Christian F. Mühlhäuser took over the management of Pneumobil, replacing Hans-Ulrich Röske, who took early retirement after more than 40 years at Pirelli Germany. Mühlhäuser joined Pirelli in 1993 as a student trainee and has headed the Pirelli motorcycle tire factory in Breuberg since 2009. On August 1, 2013, Pneumobil took over the company Reifen Blank in Düren and on September 1, 2013 PneuCenter RRT GmbH in Sindelfingen . At the same time, the tire specialist dealer and vehicle master craftsman Reifen Wagner RW Auto-Technik, based in Landshut, became the property of Pneumobil. The approximately 100 employees at Reifen Wagner were retained. The service network with all ten branches, which are exclusively located in Bavaria, was also taken over.

On September 13, 2013, the first Driver Center opened as a flagship store in Frankfurt . With a combination of showroom, design lounge, consultation room, sales and service area, “buying tires and car service will become an experience”. The workshops are spatially reminiscent of pit lanes in motorsport. On October 1, 2013, Reifen-Wagner IS Auto-Service GmbH & Co. KG, also based in Landshut, followed with its 15 branches and 140 employees. In September 2014 the Driver Centers opened in Bonn , Aachen and Trier .

On April 7, 2017, Pneumobil GmbH was renamed Pneumobil Reifen und KFZ-Technik GmbH by entry in the Commercial Register B of the Darmstadt District Court . Shortly afterwards, on July 1, 2017, Reifen Schäfer eK from Cologne was taken over by Pneumobil. After the redesign of six branches of the Pneumobil brand in the Frankfurt area and two Reifen-Wagner branches in Munich, there are currently (October 2017) 21 Driver Centers, all of which are 100% owned by Pneumobil Reifen und KFZ-Technik GmbH. There are other Driver Centers in the network of Pneumobil's sister company Driver Handelssysteme GmbH, also a company of Deutsche Pirelli Reifen Holding GmbH.

At the end of September 2017, the former Reifen-Wagner branch in Hanauerstr. 42 in Munich reopened as the Driver Center Munich. The Pirelli Group's first “P-Zero World” in Europe was also designed within this Driver Center. This has also been operated by Driver Reifen und KFZ-Technik GmbH since it opened.

On December 29, 2017, the name was changed from Pneumobil Reifen und KFZ-Technik GmbH to Driver Reifen und KFZ-Technik GmbH . Christian F. Mühlhäuser was managing director until January 22, 2018. On July 1, 2018, his move as Managing Director to the tire manufacturer Bridgestone was announced. On March 16, 2018 Thorsten Schäfer became the new managing director of Driver Reifen und KFZ-Technik GmbH. Since August 1, 2018 there are two new locations in the Driver network: Haßloch and Landau in the Palatinate. This means that there are a total of 78 branches in Germany.

Branches and brands

The 78 branches of Driver Reifen und KFZ-Technik GmbH are operated under three different brand names. In the metropolitan areas of Rhine / Main / Ruhr as well as Stuttgart, Hamburg and Hanover, the Driver brand dominates, while in Bavaria the traditional Reifen-Wagner brand, which has existed for almost a hundred years, predominates. Since the opening of the Driver Center Frankfurt in September 2013, newly added companies have also used the Driver logo.

The services include tires, rims , vehicle master service and vehicle accessories for almost all types of vehicles. The tire spectrum ranges from special tires for the container forklifts in the Port of Hamburg to wheelbarrow tires, from ultra-high-performance tires to eco tires. In addition to services for private customers, it offers services for vehicle fleets and vehicle fleets as well as commercial vehicles .

Awards

In 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2017 Pneumobil took first place in the "Tire Dealer Service Study". The German Institute for Service Quality (DISQ) is testing 14 tire dealers or chain stores with at least 25 locations nationwide with regard to their advisory skills and product presentation on behalf of the television station N-TV .

In 2016, Pneumobil took first place for the third time in a row in the ServiceAtlas tire and vehicle service study by Service Value GmbH Cologne. The result of the study is based on 1,300 customer reviews of 30 general and industry-specific service and performance features.

In February 2016 and 2017, the DISQ in Bertelsmann's Berlin representative office Pneumobil awarded the German Service Prize in the category “Travel and Mobility - On-Site Advice” for customer friendliness. The series of awards continues under the new name Driver Reifen und KFZ-Technik GmbH. First, in February 2018, the company received the German Service Prize for the third time in a row. In September 2018, the company again took first place in the DISQ's “Service Study for Tire Dealers” and in October 2018, the company again achieved overall victory in the ServiceAtlas tire and vehicle service 2018. The year 2019 then started with the "German Service Prize 2019" awarded in February.
