Flowering Drosera broomensis

In Drosera Broomensis is a perennial herbaceous plant , forms the individual down-rosettes. The leaves are upright to pointing upwards, the petioles are linear, 35 to 40 millimeters long, 0.5 to 1 millimeters wide, tapered at the base of the blade , sparsely covered with fine white hairs at flowering time, and densely hairy in the dry season. The approximately circular leaf blades have a diameter between 2 and 3.5 millimeters, their upper side is covered with slightly longer, centrally shorter catching tentacles, the underside is finely haired in white.

The one to four hairless inflorescence axes are 15 to 30 centimeters long and carry 50 or more flowers in a cluster , the flower stalks are 2 to 4 millimeters long. The sepals are narrowly ovate, hairless, 3 millimeters long and around 1.4 millimeters wide. The petals are white, with a pronounced central rib, inverted ovoid and 5.5 millimeters long and 3.5 millimeters wide.

The stamens are around 2.5 mm long. The ovary is inverted ovoid, 1 millimeter long, while the flower is 1.4 millimeters in diameter and three carpels that are broadly two-lobed. The three styles , including the scars, are 0.8 millimeters long and in the upper part divided into many different sections that end in widened, irregularly shaped scars.

distribution

Drosera broomensis is native to the extreme north of Australia to the north or northeast, and occasionally also south of Broome , where it occurs on sandy soils.

Systematics

The closest related species is Drosera petiolaris , from which it is clearly distinguished by its hairless flower stalk. The species belongs to the so-called "Petiolaris complex", which forms the Lasiocephala section of the genus.
