Drummore , Gaelic An Druim Mòr , is a village in the Scottish Council Area Dumfries and Galloway or in the traditional county of Wigtownshire . It is located around 21 kilometers south of Stranraer on Luce Bay near the southern tip of the Rhins of Galloway peninsula . This makes Drummore one of the southernmost towns in Scotland.
history
A church building has been in the area since 1386 at the latest. With the construction of today's Old Parish Church of Kirkmaiden in 1638, the older building became obsolete. Today , St Medan's Church , built in 1903 in Drummore in neo-Gothic style, serves as the parish church.
To the west of the village are the remains of a medieval moth . With the Tower House Drummore Castle on the western edge of the village, there is another fortification, probably dating from the 16th century, in the immediate vicinity.
Probably in the middle of the 19th century, Drummore was given a small port, which in the past was important as a local trading post for the village. Most of the houses in the Drummore are from the same century.
As part of the 1971 census survey, Drummore counted 336 residents. This meant a decrease of 54 people in ten years.
